My Story
Hi, I’m Tomi. I’m a DIY enthusiast with a long-standing love for fashion and making things by hand.
My interest in fashion started young. Early memories include sketching designs for friends at school, cutting up old curtains to make “outfits”, and spending hours in the library reading books on Princess Diana’s style. I was fascinated by beautiful garments and wanted to make pieces like that for myself. As I grew older, fashion became my main form of self-expression. From street style to preppy to emo, I’ve explored many different aesthetics while trying to find my “look”.
Crochet was my entry point into DIY fashion. What began as making accessories for myself and loved ones gradually expanded into garments, and I realised I could start building a handmade wardrobe. Sewing felt like the natural next step, so I enrolled in a pattern-making class to push past my hesitation. That’s where this journey really took off.
Learning how garments are constructed changed the way I see clothing. I gained a new understanding of quality and began applying it to my own makes. Through this process, I gained access to better materials and clothes that fit my body, because I sourced the fabric myself and made each piece to my measurements. For me, that satisfaction is second to none.
This blog is where I document the process from start to finish, sharing my wins, failures, and lessons learned along the way. My goal is to create well-crafted, handmade pieces while continuing to build my skills. By sharing what I’ve learned, I hope to show that with time, curiosity and a willingness to try, the joy of creation is accessible to anyone.
I hope you can learn a thing or two about DIY sewing and learning through doing, and feel encouraged on your own creative journey. Thanks for stopping by!
Tomi
